Pulau Sibu Johor, Malaysia - A True Island Getaway

Pulau Sibu (Sibu Island) off Peninsular's Malaysia East Coast

Pulau Sibu Malaysia (Meaning Sibu island in Malay) is an unspoilt tropical island Paradise off the Peninsular's East Coast, facing the South China Sea. Pulau Sibu Besar means 'Big Sibu island' in Malay, Pulau Sibu is approximately 6km long and 1km wide, the island abounds with lush tropical vegetation, and is noted for its beaches, hills, cliffs and exotic bird population. Sibu is part of a small group of islands including Pulau Sibu Tengah, Pulau Sibu Hujung, Pulau Kukus and Pulau Tinggi.

On the southern end of Pulau Sibu there is a small fishing village with a population of less than a hundred people. Facing Pulau Sibu on the west is the better known majestic island of Pulau Tinggi and a few smaller uninhabited islands. Sibu Island is smaller and less commercial than Pulau Tioman or Rawa.  Pulau Sibu is located within the same Mersing Marine park as Pulau Tioman, but with only a handful of divers exploring the many dive sites around Pulau Sibu. the scuba diving on offer here is excellent.

So if it's a truly tropical island paradise you are after; look no further.

Almost untouched by progress, Pulau Sibu Island is the perfect island getaway near Singapore in Malaysia from busy city life. The island is very popular with tourists visiting from Europe, America, Australia and Singapore. Only 3 hours from the centre of Singapore, Sibu island is far enough to escape the buzz of the big city into a tropical paradise. Private boats to the island leave from Tanjung Leman on the Mainland (just off the Johor to Mersing road). Directions to Pulau Sibu from Singapore.

The Beaches on Pulau Sibu

There are four main beaches on the eastern side of Sibu where most of the beach resorts are located. Sibu Island Cabanas is situated on a beautiful long stretch of beach, facing Pulau Tinggi and on clear days Tioman island can be seen. 'Tingg'i is the Malay word for high and 'Pulau' is Malay for island.

The climate on Peninsular East Coast Malaysia

Resorts on Pulau Sibu tend to close for business during the  Monsoon season (December to January) as the area experiences strong winds and more rain than normal brought in by the North/East Monsoon, however most re-open for Chinese New Year. Weekends are busier periods like most islands in Malaysia, still Sibu island never gets as busy as Tioman. If you want a beach paradise all to yourself it's a good idea to plan your holiday so you have some time mid-week.
